LAS VEGAS, Dec. 21, 2018 – The Oklahoma City Blue (14-4) defeated the Grand Rapids Drive (7-12), 106-98, on Day Three of the 2018 MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showcase.
Six of the 11 Blue players that saw game action finished in double figures. Forward Scotty Hopson registered a team-high 20 points to go with eight rebounds, while two-way player Deonte Burton was close behind with 16 points.
Guard Abdul Gaddy finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and nine assists, falling short of a triple double.
“I was pleased with our effort,” Head Coach Mark Daigneault said. “I thought we played hard and played the right way and I’m excited to play again tomorrow and continue to improve our habits.”
The Blue won the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Drive 61-44. 22 of the Blue’s rebounds were offensive rebounds, leading to 16 second-chance points. Two-way player Tyler Davis accounted for nine offensive rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench.
For Grand Rapids, forward Marcus Thornton tallied a game-high 23 points to go with five rebounds and center Johnny Hamilton added 15 points and eight rebounds. Reserve Shep Garner scored 14 points in 19 minutes. Grand Rapids went winless at the Showcase and fell to 7-12 with the loss.
Oklahoma City will wrap up its time in Las Vegas tomorrow when they face off against the Long Island Nets (12-5) at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
