OKLAHOMA CITY, Jan. 26, 2019 – The Oklahoma City Blue (22-9) defeated the Northern Arizona Suns (6-27), 96-88, on Saturday night.
With 1:12 remaining, Northern Arizona cut the deficit to three at 91-88 before the Blue scored five unanswered points to finish out the game on top.
“I thought we had a really good week of practice leading into the game and I thought that we had a lot of great carry over in the game tonight from our practices during the week,” Head Coach Mark Daigneault said. “Happy with the win and happy with how we defended.”
The Blue was the first to strike, quickly going up 8-2, but Northern Arizona battled back and took a 22-18 lead after the first quarter. The game remained tightly contested until midway through the third when Oklahoma City generated a 10-0 run to go up 67-57.
The home team widened the gap to as many as 16 points in the final frame. Northern Arizona then created an 11-0 run of their own punctuated by a three-pointer from two-way player George King but were unable to get within three points of the Blue. King finished with a team-high-tying 16 points and seven rebounds.
Richard Solomon led the Blue with 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists and five steals, going 6-for-8 from the field. Scotty Hopson recorded 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and five steals while Abdul Gaddy went 5-of-6 from the floor to score his 10 points.
Two-way player Deonte Burton drained two shots from beyond the arc to tally 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals. Chris Wright led the bench efforts with 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting, helping Oklahoma City outscore Northern Arizona 54-34 in the paint.
The Blue will return to action in Salt Lake City, taking on the Stars at 8 p.m. CT on Monday, Jan. 28 inside Lifetime Activities Center.
