The Oklahoma City Blue (14-11) defeated the South Bay Lakers (14-10), 110-99, on Saturday night.
The Lakers gained an early lead in the first quarter, going up seven points over the Blue and Oklahoma City was down 21-27 to start the second quarter until back-to-back threes from Bryce Alford helped produce a 10-0 run. Alford scored 11 of his 16 points in the second quarter to propel the Blue past South Bay, giving them the lead they would hold the remainder of the game.
In the third quarter Oklahoma City took their biggest lead of 16 points following a three-point shot from Myke Henry.
“I thought it was a really good defensive effort against one of the better offensive teams in the league,” said Head Coach Mark Daigneault. “I am pleased overall with our last week. I thought we showed great fortitude and took a step forward as a team.”
Henry was the top scorer for Oklahoma City, tallying 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting, five rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
Michael Cobbins finished with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, while fellow Oklahoma State grad Markel Brown recorded 17 points and nine rebounds. Rashawn Thomas logged a well-rounded game with 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists, three steals, and two blocks.
The Blue outscored the Lakers in fast break points 24-16 and outshot them 46.9 percent to 39.4 percent from the field.
Two-way player Alex Caruso came off the bench to lead the Lakers with 18 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
The Blue will travel to Canada for their next game against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Jan. 11 at 1:30 p.m. inside Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario as a part of the 2018 NBA G League Showcase.
