Official Release | January 4, 2017

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 3, 2017 – The Oklahoma City Blue (13-7) defeated the Salt Lake City Stars (4-14), 89-88, on Tuesday night for its fifth straight win.

The Stars took a five-point lead early in the fourth quarter but Cameron Payne, on assignment from the Oklahoma City Thunder, scored eight points in the fourth, helping the Blue tie the game.

The score was tied four times in the fourth quarter but a dunk from Josh Huestis with 1:01 left in the game gave OKC the lead for good.

Payne finished with 14 points and two assists off the bench, while Huestis, also on assignment from the Thunder, turned in 13 points and six rebounds.

“Tonight was about him [Payne] getting his legs underneath him and getting back on the court,” Head Coach Mark Daigneault said. “It was a victory for him; he did a good job and we’re looking to build on it tomorrow.”

Oklahoma City trailed by as many as 19 in the first half of the game and went into halftime trailing 49-35. But the Blue held the Stars to 15 points in the third quarter and only trailed 64-62 heading into the fourth.

Alex Caruso scored nine points in OKC’s 27-point third quarter and finished with a team-leading 15 points.

Oklahoma City’s road trip continues on Thursday when it faces the Reno Bighorns at 9 p.m. CST in the Reno Events Center.
