HIDALGO, Texas, March 16, 2017 – The Oklahoma City Blue (30-15) fell to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (27-16), 125-110, on Thursday night.
The Blue fell behind by 13 to start the fourth quarter, but held the Vipers to three points over four minutes in the fourth and only trailed 94-92 with 8:08 to play. Troy Williams responded with 11 points for Rio Grande Valley, and Oklahoma City couldn’t recover.
Dakari Johnson led the way for the Blue with 23 points and nine rebounds. Rookies Alex Caruso and Daniel Hamilton each had five assists for Oklahoma City.
With the game going back and forth in the third quarter, Oklahoma City took a 70-67 lead with 6:31 left in the period. Rio Grande Valley went on a 24-8 run to close out the third and led 91-78 going into the fourth.
Reggie Williams scored six points in the third and finished with 20 points. It was his third consecutive game scoring 20-plus points, and his 14th of the season.
Rio Grande Valley led by as many as 10 points in the second quarter. Oklahoma City outscored the Vipers by nine points to close the half and only trailed 57-56 going into the locker room.
Dez Wells scored 13 points in the second quarter on 4-of-5 shooting. He finished with 21 points, four rebounds and four assists off the bench.
The Blue is back at home on Saturday night versus the Reno Bighorns at 7 p.m. in the Cox Convention Center.
