HIDALGO, Texas, March 24, 2017 – The Oklahoma City Blue (32-15) beat the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (29-18), 118-104, on Friday night, clinching the Southwest Division title for the first time in franchise history.
The Vipers cut the Blue’s lead to 97-95 with 5:37 left in the game. A three-pointer from Daniel Hamilton sparked Oklahoma City to outscore Rio Grande Valley by 12 points to close out the contest.
Hamilton finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, his second consecutive, and team-leading, 14th double-double of the season.
The Blue led for the majority of the first half and used a strong second quarter to take a 63-46 lead into the locker room at halftime. Josh Huestis, on assignment from the Thunder, scored 16 points in the first half and finished with 21 points, five rebounds and two assists.
After Oklahoma City pushed the lead up to 21 points, Rio Grande Valley came back with a 38-point third quarter and only trailed 88-84 going into the fourth quarter.
Reggie Williams powered the Blue in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 of his team-high 26 points in the final frame. He was one of six in double figures and one of three 20-point scorers for OKC. Dakari Johnson contributed 20 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field.
The road trip continues for Oklahoma City on Sunday at the Austin Spurs at 5 p.m. in the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
